Can I Legally Get Out of My Timeshare?

Yes. Most timeshare owners can legally get out of their contract. Options include the rescission period right after purchase, the resort's own deed-back program, or a professional cancellation company that works with the resort on your behalf. The right path depends on your contract, your state and how long you've owned.

Your first option: the rescission period

Every state gives new buyers a short window, usually between 3 and 15 days, to cancel a timeshare purchase for any reason. If you're still inside that window, send written cancellation by certified mail right away.

After the rescission period

Once that window closes, you still have options. Some resorts offer deed-back or surrender programs, though they often have strict conditions. Contracts sold with misleading or high-pressure tactics may also be challenged.

A professional cancellation company handles the communication and paperwork with the resort, which is often the fastest way to a clean exit.
